cycling matters

Al began racing on the Scottish roads as "wee nipper" of 17 years. This led him to England where he continued racing and began working in a bike shop. A friendly connection through Paul Sherwin landed Alastair a mechanic's job for Raleigh-Banana team, which raced in Holland, Spain, France, Belgium & Britain, and subsequent postings with several teams including BCF, PCA and the F.S.Maestro team; and races including: World R.R. Champs, World T.T. Champs, World Track Champs, World Junior R.R. Champs, World MTB Champs, Kellogs Tour, Milk Race, Cuircuit de la Sarthe, Nissan Tour, G.P. Formies, Isgebergs, Wincanton Classic, Leeds Classic, lots of Belgian semi-classics & kermesses, and many other races he "can't remember"!

He still rides 3 - 4 times a week , but admits that since having joined the world of the computer-literate he's finding it tougher to get out as much as he'd like.

Besides providing up-to-date coverage of Spanish and European racing news for us and PezCyclingNews, and retrospectives of Scottish racing in the 70's and 80's, Al works as a bike mechanic, freelance writer, and tour guide, in Alicante, Spain.

Here at VeloVeritas…

...we reckon cycling matters. We aim to provide our readers with truthful, interesting and unique articles about the sport we love.

We cover all aspects of cycling by actually being there, in the mix: from the local "10" to the famous WorldTour "monuments" - classics like Milan-SanRemo and the Tour of Lombardy, the World Championships, the winter Six Days, and of course the Grand Tours.

We attend many local races as well as work on the professional circuit - and we do it all with a Scottish accent.
